Zanzibar is strengthening its digital infrastructure as Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) continues to expand connectivity and digital services across the islands.
President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, visited the TTCL pavilion during the Kizimkazi Festival 2026, where he was briefed on the corporation’s contribution to Zanzibar’s growing digital economy.
During the visit, TTCL Zanzibar Manager Nasra Mugheiry highlighted the expansion of the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB), which is supporting the rollout of reliable, high-speed connectivity across Zanzibar.
Mugheiry also outlined TTCL’s Faiba Mlangoni Kwako (FTTH) service, which is expanding access to high-speed fibre internet for homes and businesses. The service is designed to support students, families, entrepreneurs and professionals by providing reliable access to digital services, education, business opportunities and online platforms.
Mwinyi was further briefed on TTCL’s National Internet Data Centre (NIDC), including its cloud computing, virtual server and colocation services. These solutions are designed to provide secure and reliable digital infrastructure for businesses, government institutions and other organisations.
The visit highlighted the role of continued telecommunications investment in expanding digital access, strengthening infrastructure and creating opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities across Zanzibar.
As Tanzania continues to advance its digital transformation agenda, investments in broadband networks, fibre connectivity, data centres and cloud infrastructure are becoming increasingly important to supporting a connected digital economy.
TTCL said it remains committed to expanding digital access and supporting Tanzania’s broader digital transformation objectives through continued investment in telecommunications infrastructure and digital services.
