Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has provided HP OmniBook laptops and digital skills training to the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), aiming to strengthen its digital capacity and improve operational efficiency.
The initiative was announced during WICE’s 30th Annual National Conference in Bichi, Kano State, held under the theme, “Dual Mandate: Global Impact; Reimagining Teacher Education for Sustainable Development.”
NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, represented by Christiana Simon of the agency’s Digital Development Services Department, said the laptops would support documentation, information management, communication, virtual engagements and collaboration among WICE members.
Alongside the equipment, NITDA has enrolled 1,135 WICE members in digital literacy courses through the NITDA-Cisco Networking Academy platform. The online programme is complemented by an in-person masterclass covering productivity tools, cybersecurity and generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The training is designed to equip women educators with practical digital competencies to improve workplace productivity, protect digital information and use emerging technologies responsibly in teaching, research and administration.
The initiative forms part of NITDA’s wider efforts to expand digital inclusion and strengthen technology adoption across Nigeria’s education sector. By combining equipment with practical training, the programme aims to help women educators integrate digital tools into their professional activities.
NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women educators with essential digital skills and promoting technology-driven approaches to teaching, research and administrative processes across educational institutions.
