Mozambique is accelerating its digital transformation agenda, with the government positioning technology as a critical enabler of economic growth, public sector modernization, and inclusive service delivery. Speaking at the opening of the II Sector Coordinating Council in Chidenguele, Gaza Province, Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation América Muchanga called for faster implementation of strategic digital initiatives that can strengthen governance and improve citizens’ access to public services.

The meeting, which brings together government officials, technical experts, and development partners, is reviewing progress made across the ICT sector while aligning priorities for the next phase of Mozambique’s digital transformation. Discussions are focused on enhancing the efficiency of government operations, reducing operational costs, and leveraging technology to make public administration more responsive and accessible.

Minister Muchanga emphasized that digital transformation should be viewed as a cross-cutting national development agenda capable of driving economic development, promoting social inclusion, and improving transparency in public service delivery. He also called for stronger institutional coordination to accelerate digital connectivity, improve interoperability across government systems, and deploy inclusive technologies that ensure citizens can access services regardless of their location.

Held under the theme “Accelerating Digital Transformation to Serve the Citizen Wherever They Are,” the council is providing stakeholders with an opportunity to evaluate achievements, address existing challenges, and define practical strategies for advancing Mozambique’s digital future. Gaza Province Secretary of State Jaime Bessa Neto praised the Ministry’s efforts to modernize public administration and reaffirmed the province’s commitment to supporting the national digital agenda.

As the II Sector Coordinating Council concludes on July 3, the outcomes are expected to strengthen collaboration across government institutions and guide future investments in digital infrastructure, connectivity, and citizen-focused innovation. The initiative reflects Mozambique’s continued commitment to building a more efficient, transparent, and digitally inclusive public sector capable of supporting long-term national development.
