The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has expanded its nationwide cybersecurity awareness campaign through the latest edition of its Cybersecurity Marathon, bringing digital safety education to students and educators in Gbarnga, Bong County. The initiative reflects the regulator’s commitment to promoting responsible internet use and strengthening cyber resilience as digital adoption continues to grow across Liberia.

The programme brought together students in grades 7 to 9 and school administrators from five secondary schools, alongside county officials including the Superintendent and County Education Officer. Through interactive awareness sessions, participants gained practical knowledge on online safety, cyber threats, and responsible digital behavior, helping equip young people with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly connected world.

LTA Commissioner for International Gateway Services and Internet Governance, Angela Cassell-Bush, said the Cybersecurity Marathon demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to extending cybersecurity awareness beyond urban centres into communities across Liberia. She emphasized that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration among government, institutions, educators, parents, and citizens, particularly young people who are becoming increasingly active online.

Senator Prince K. Moye praised the initiative and encouraged students, whom he described as Liberia’s first generation of digital natives, to use digital technologies responsibly. LTA Chairperson Clarence K. Massaquoi reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to advancing digital transformation while combating cybercrime, announcing 20 scholarships for students who excelled during the cybersecurity question-and-answer session as part of efforts to encourage greater interest in digital safety.

Organized in partnership with Telecel Liberia, the Liberia Cyber Warriors Team, and the Liberia Girl Guides Association, the Cybersecurity Marathon forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen cybersecurity awareness across the country. The LTA confirmed that the initiative will continue next week in Maryland County as it works to expand cybersecurity education, build digital resilience, and foster a safer online environment for communities throughout Liberia.
