Nigeria is taking a major step toward transforming its Hajj operations through a strategic partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The agreement, reached during a high-level meeting at NITDA headquarters in Abuja, aims to create a seamless, technology-driven experience for Nigerian pilgrims by addressing challenges across registration, payment verification, flight manifest management, logistics coordination, and real-time pilgrim tracking.

NAHCON Chairman Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abbas highlighted the commission’s need for technical expertise, staff training, and stronger ICT infrastructure. Despite existing digital tools, including electronic registration, medical tracking, and the GPS-enabled Hajj Companions mobile app, NAHCON continues to face internal ICT capacity constraints.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi emphasized that successful digital transformation requires more than software deployment, calling for the integration of people, processes, culture, technology, and data. He also highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to support smarter decision-making and provide end-to-end visibility throughout the Hajj journey.

NITDA will provide technical support, hands-on training, and IT project clearance to support quality implementation and sustainable digital systems. The partnership is expected to help deliver a more efficient, transparent, and pilgrim-centered Hajj experience.
