Prompt-driven artificial intelligence has reached its limits for enterprise adoption, with businesses now shifting toward human-supervised AI agents capable of managing end-to-end workflows, according to Accelera Digital Group (ADG).
The company argues that while prompt engineering helped accelerate AI adoption, it has failed to deliver the reliability, scalability and governance required by modern enterprises. ADG Chief Innovation Officer Cliff de Wit said businesses should move beyond focusing on crafting prompts and instead build AI strategies around autonomous agents that continuously execute business processes with human oversight at critical decision points.
According to de Wit, the emerging “human-in-the-loop AI” model allows AI agents to automate routine workflows while people retain responsibility for judgement, ethics, compliance and context. He noted that this approach is particularly important in sectors such as banking, healthcare, legal services and government, where regulatory requirements and accountability cannot be delegated entirely to machines.
ADG pointed to Google Cloud’s AI Agent Trends 2026 Report, which shows enterprises are increasingly adopting multi-agent systems capable of managing complete business workflows rather than relying on isolated prompt-based interactions. The company said organisations should focus on redesigning business processes so AI agents operate continuously in the background while humans intervene only at predefined approval and governance checkpoints.
The company believes organisations should now invest in training employees to supervise and orchestrate AI agents rather than specialise solely in prompt engineering. ADG added that strong governance frameworks, including existing Delegation of Authority structures, can provide the oversight needed to ensure AI systems remain safe, predictable and accountable as enterprises accelerate AI adoption.
