Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has been inaugurated as a founding member of the AI for Good Global Commission, a new international body established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to promote trusted, inclusive and globally coordinated approaches to artificial intelligence.

Co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, the commission brings together global leaders from government, industry, academia and international organisations to help shape the future of AI governance and its role in sustainable development.

According to Tijani, the appointment reflects Nigeria’s progress in building a responsible and inclusive AI ecosystem through investments in digital infrastructure, research, innovation, talent development and AI governance. He added that the role will also provide an opportunity to ensure Africa’s perspectives are represented in global AI discussions.

The appointment highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in the global AI landscape as countries work together to advance the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
