Kofa, a Ghanaian frontrunner in battery network solutions, is expanding its reach beyond its home market. The company, known for its innovative battery swapping system and eco-friendly e-motorcycles, has set its sights on Kenya and Togo for future expansion.

Kofa’s core mission lies in creating a sustainable and affordable energy network built on portable batteries and renewable energy. Their multi-use, high-capacity Kore2 battery serves as the backbone of this system, alongside a network of swapping stations strategically placed across Ghana. This user-centric approach aims to facilitate a seamless transition to clean energy for individuals and businesses alike.

“Kofa’s batteries are not only cost-effective, being at least 30% cheaper than petrol, but also versatile,” said CEO Erik Nygard. This innovation extends beyond price point, with the Kore2 batteries boasting extended lifespans and a wider range of applications.

The company’s focus on infrastructure goes beyond batteries. Kofa has partnered with TAIL-G, a renowned e-motorcycle manufacturer, to design the Jidi specifically for the African market. This motorcycle, equipped with the Kore2 battery, offers a range of over 100km, providing a sustainable and practical transportation solution. Kofa has further solidified its commitment to accessibility by partnering with MAX, a leader in African electric vehicle solutions. This collaboration will see MAX offer financing options for over 2,000 Jidi bikes.

Kofa’s strategy sets them apart from competitors simply importing existing EVs. They prioritize building a market for efficient batteries and the supporting infrastructure, addressing the root cause of problems associated with petrol dependence. Whether it’s a business owner burdened by expensive generators or a delivery driver facing pollution concerns, Kofa offers a solution.

Since its launch in 2021, Kofa has made significant progress in Ghana. They’ve deployed over 10 charging stations, 500 Kore2 batteries, and 150 Jidi motorcycles across the country. With further expansion planned for four Ghanaian cities and future ventures in Kenya and Togo, Kofa is poised to be a major player in Africa’s clean energy future.
