Nigeria has moved to strengthen the implementation of its National Sovereign Cloud Initiative with the inauguration of the Joint Technical Committee on the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (JTC-NSCI) by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF).
The committee, chaired by BOF Director-General Tanimu Yakubu with NITDA Director-General and CEO Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi serving as Co-Chair, will address key expenditure, procurement, financing and investment considerations surrounding the initiative.
The committee will examine government ICT and cloud expenditure, total cost of ownership, existing infrastructure utilisation, budget and procurement alignment, infrastructure financing, investment mobilisation and the fiscal implications of cloud adoption.
NITDA said the initiative is designed to support trusted domestic cloud and digital infrastructure for government, regulated sectors and critical national workloads while creating opportunities for private-sector investment and innovation.
The establishment of the JTC-NSCI is expected to strengthen coordination across public finance, procurement, infrastructure, connectivity, power, cybersecurity, data governance and regulated sectors as Nigeria works to translate its sovereign cloud policy into sustainable and investment-ready implementation.
