Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an inclusive digital ecosystem during a meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as both parties explored ways to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The minister said Ghana is using the UNESCO Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) to guide the implementation of key digital initiatives, helping identify priority intervention areas while distinguishing projects that are ready for deployment from those requiring further development. He also outlined plans to establish a national fintech fund linked to the country’s forthcoming Innovation and Startup legislative framework.

Discussions focused on expanding collaboration on flagship digital projects, accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence in public service delivery and strengthening support for Ghana’s digital ecosystem. UNDP Ghana Representative Niloy Banerjee highlighted progress on an Italian-supported digital flagship project, an MSME digital platform initiative and a Japanese-backed AI programme designed to improve public services.

The meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen digital governance through an AI and digital capacity-building programme for Ghana’s Civil Service. The initiative aims to enhance institutional capabilities, improve policymaking in emerging technologies and promote gender inclusion through multiple training cohorts.

In addition, both parties discussed digital infrastructure initiatives, including the proposed Digital Youth Village, as part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s innovation ecosystem and digital economy. The engagement reflects continued collaboration between government and development partners to expand digital opportunities, attract investment and support sustainable digital growth.
