Belmoney and RwandaCash have announced a strategic partnership aimed at simplifying cross-border remittances for Rwandans living across Europe. The collaboration introduces a new EU-enabled remittance framework designed to make sending money home faster, more secure, and more cost-efficient through regulated digital infrastructure.

Through this partnership, RwandaCash transitions from a Belgian-licensed operator into a fully EU-enabled remittance platform powered by Belmoney’s Remittance-as-a-Service (RaaS) infrastructure. Leveraging PSD2 licensing, API-first architecture, and integrated compliance systems, the solution enables seamless cross-border payments across the Eurozone.

The partnership addresses a critical financial lifeline for Rwanda, where remittances reached $554 million in 2023, representing about 3.6% of GDP. Despite their importance, sending money to East Africa remains costly, with average fees reaching 9.9% in early 2025—significantly above global sustainability targets and reducing the value received by families on the ground.

With a single API integration, RwandaCash now gains access to Belmoney’s full European payment ecosystem, including real-time foreign exchange conversion, AML/KYC compliance, and PSD2-compliant collection across Europe. This removes the need for lengthy licensing processes across multiple jurisdictions, enabling rapid scale across EU markets.

Both companies emphasized that the model reflects a broader shift toward regulated, API-driven financial infrastructure that reduces costs and increases transparency in remittances. With expectations of over €5 million in transaction volume within the first year, the partnership aims to strengthen financial inclusion and ensure more capital reaches families directly rather than being lost to intermediaries.
