SPIRO Rwanda has launched its 10th Mega Station, expanding the battery-swapping infrastructure supporting the country’s growing electric mobility sector.
According to SPIRO, the new station can charge up to 1,600 batteries simultaneously and support more than 8,000 battery swaps daily. The expansion is intended to improve access to battery-swapping services as the company extends its operations beyond the capital into rural areas.
SPIRO Rwanda has deployed more than 40,000 electric motorcycles to date. Its battery-swapping model allows riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, reducing downtime and helping them return to work more quickly.
The company has highlighted the importance of making battery-swapping services accessible across different districts, with the goal of enabling riders to complete exchanges in under two minutes. Supportive government policies have also contributed to the development of Rwanda’s electric mobility sector.
The launch highlights the role of battery-swapping infrastructure in scaling electric motorcycle adoption, supporting riders’ daily operations and extending electric mobility services beyond major urban centres.
