Airtel Uganda and the Buganda Kingdom have renewed their longstanding partnership, extending a collaboration focused on connectivity, sport, culture and community development across the Kingdom.
The partnership, which began in 2018, aims to support social and economic development, empower young people, promote healthier communities, preserve Buganda’s cultural heritage and expand access to digital and financial services.
Airtel Uganda CEO and Managing Director Soumendra Sahu said the renewed collaboration aligns with the Buganda Kingdom’s Situla Omutindo, or Raise the Standard, agenda and Airtel Uganda’s efforts to connect more Ugandans to opportunities.
The partnership has previously supported access to Airtel Money, high-speed internet and affordable voice and data packages, alongside community and sporting initiatives.
The renewed agreement will build on these programmes while exploring additional solutions addressing the evolving needs of communities across Buganda.
Katikkiro of Buganda Oweek. Charles Peter Mayiga welcomed the continuation of the partnership, highlighting its contribution to health, talent development, cultural values and community engagement.
Sport will remain a key component of the collaboration through initiatives including the Kabaka Birthday Run, Masaza Cup Tournament and Bika Cup Tournament. These programmes combine sporting participation with community engagement, talent development, cultural preservation and social initiatives.
The two organisations said the renewed partnership will seek to expand the impact of existing programmes while creating further opportunities for communities across Buganda.
The collaboration comes as connectivity and digital financial services continue to play a growing role in expanding access to economic and social opportunities in Uganda.
