Uganda has launched the Updated National Information Security Framework (NISF) 2026, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity as digital public services continue to expand across the country.

Launched by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba, the framework provides Government institutions with practical guidance, cybersecurity assessment tools and minimum security controls to help safeguard critical information systems. The initiative comes as Uganda accelerates digital transformation across public services, making cybersecurity an increasingly important national priority.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister emphasized that information security extends beyond technology, describing it as a critical pillar of national security, economic development, public service delivery and public trust. She urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to work closely with the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) during cybersecurity assessments and implement corrective measures to strengthen government systems.

The Updated National Information Security Framework 2026 is designed to help institutions assess their cybersecurity maturity, identify vulnerabilities and improve resilience against evolving cyber threats. According to NITA-U Executive Director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, the framework provides a practical roadmap that enables government institutions to move beyond cybersecurity awareness towards effective implementation.

Developed under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP-GovNet), the framework supports Uganda’s broader vision of building a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem. As more government services move online, the initiative is expected to strengthen critical information infrastructure while enhancing public confidence in digital government services.
