Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has intensified public education activities across the Eastern Region following concerns surrounding the construction of a telecommunications mast at the Koforidua-Kumasi Lorry Station.
As part of the exercise, the NCA engaged traders, transport operators and commuters at the Koforidua Central Market, including the Dwakeseɛ Mu and Dwaketewa Mu sections, to provide factual information about telecommunications masts and towers, address public concerns and explain the role of the infrastructure in delivering reliable communications services.
The public education campaign also extended beyond direct engagements. NCA officials used selected information centres within the market and conducted radio sensitisation programmes on selected stations in Koforidua to reach a wider audience.
The team later extended the campaign to Adawso, using the community’s market day to engage traders, residents and visitors on telecommunications infrastructure and related concerns.
During the engagements, participants were informed that telecommunications masts operate within internationally accepted radio frequency exposure limits and are deployed under regulatory, technical, structural, environmental and safety requirements.
The NCA also highlighted the importance of telecommunications infrastructure in supporting voice and data services, emergency communications, broadcasting, digital financial services and other essential services that contribute to socio-economic development.
Officials encouraged members of the public to rely on credible and authoritative sources when seeking information about telecommunications infrastructure and services. The Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained community engagement and public awareness initiatives.
The campaign forms part of the NCA’s wider efforts to promote transparency, stakeholder engagement and consumer education while maintaining regulatory oversight of telecommunications infrastructure and services across Ghana.
