MTN Group has completed a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey by modernising its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) platform in South Africa, migrating it to Microsoft Azure. This major upgrade marks the completion of one of the largest telco cloud implementations in the Middle East and Africa. The new EVA 3.0 platform is designed to deliver enhanced agility, intelligence, and security in how MTN uses data to drive operational efficiency and improve customer experiences.
The upgraded cloud-based system empowers MTN with real-time analytics and faster data processing, enabling the company to analyse and act on information at an unprecedented scale. Processing about 22 billion records daily and managing more than 800 analytics workflows across over 1,700 data feeds, EVA 3.0 has proven to be a powerful enabler of digital efficiency. Built on Azure Databricks and safeguarded by Microsoft Defender, the platform delivers substantial performance improvements over its predecessor, strengthening MTN’s capacity to make data-driven decisions swiftly and securely.
With EVA 3.0, MTN gains earlier visibility into service performance and customer behaviour trends. This real-time insight allows the company’s teams to resolve network or service issues faster, design more targeted offers, and ensure a consistently superior customer experience. The platform’s intelligence-driven capabilities also play a vital role in supporting responsible artificial intelligence (AI) deployment, aligning with MTN’s broader commitment to ethical innovation and customer trust.
According to Nikos Angelopoulos, MTN Group Chief Information Officer, this transformation reflects MTN’s dedication to delivering reliability, relevance, and responsiveness across all customer interactions. He highlighted that EVA 3.0 enhances the company’s ability to understand and utilise vast amounts of data, helping MTN maintain a competitive edge in the fast-evolving digital landscape. The partnership with Microsoft has resulted in a resilient, cloud-secured infrastructure that positions MTN at the forefront of telco data innovation in Africa and beyond.
Rick Lievano, Microsoft’s Worldwide Chief Technology Officer for Telecommunications, noted that AI and big data analytics remain central to telco transformation. They enable operators to optimise networks, build new revenue opportunities beyond traditional connectivity, and enhance customer engagement through personalisation and predictive services. The collaboration between MTN and Microsoft demonstrates how cloud technology and responsible AI can redefine telecommunications and empower digital growth across the continent.
