Moroccan electric mobility startup GoSwap Morocco has secured its first seed funding from Azur Innovation Management Fund to accelerate the expansion of its battery-swapping network for electric scooters. The funding marks a significant milestone for the company as it aims to scale its operations across major Moroccan cities, including Casablanca and Marrakech.

GoSwap operates a unique model that allows users to exchange depleted scooter batteries for fully charged units in under 10 seconds at connected stations located at fuel retailers and partner outlets. Approximately 20 swap cabinets are already operational in Casablanca, offering riders and fleet operators a fast, convenient, and cost-efficient alternative to traditional petrol-powered motorcycles.

The startup sells scooters without batteries, providing access to energy through a pay-as-you-go system. This model reduces upfront costs and lowers the total cost of ownership for users. GoSwap estimates that its system can cut operating costs by up to 60 percent while also reducing carbon emissions by a similar margin, supporting both economic and environmental sustainability.

The new investment will enable GoSwap to deploy additional swap stations nationwide, integrate more compatible electric motorcycle models, and enhance its infrastructure to meet the growing demand for last-mile urban mobility. This expansion aligns with broader trends in African cities, where electric two-wheelers are emerging as practical solutions for delivery services and urban transport challenges.

Azur Innovation Fund highlighted GoSwap’s integrated approach, combining infrastructure, hardware, and a usage-based business model that addresses both financial and environmental challenges. With the seed funding, GoSwap is positioned to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Morocco, driving innovation and sustainability in urban transport.
