Visa has unveiled Visa Pay in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), marking a significant milestone in expanding access to digital financial services across the region. This innovative mobile-first solution provides both banked and unbanked consumers with secure, interoperable ways to pay, get paid, and move money across participating banks and mobile networks. With a focus on accessibility, affordability, and convenience, Visa Pay is designed to meet the diverse financial needs of individuals and businesses in the DRC.
The platform introduces near real-time account-to-account money movement in both Congolese Franc (CDF) and US Dollar (USD), ensuring seamless transactions for everyday users and enterprises alike. In addition, Visa Pay enables cash in and cash out services at bank branches, while also facilitating online payments through virtual cards. With advanced risk and fraud prevention capabilities, the solution prioritises user safety while enabling efficient digital transactions.
Visa Pay is launching in partnership with eight leading financial institutions, including Access Banque, BGFI, Equity Bank, FBN, Sofibanque, Solidaire Banque, TMB, and UBA. The service is available as a standalone mobile app via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as an integration option for partner banks, allowing them to embed Visa Pay features directly into their mobile applications. This flexibility makes it adaptable for a wide range of financial service providers.
Sophie Kafuti, General Manager for Visa DRC, highlighted the broader vision behind the launch, stating that Visa Pay represents a commitment to scaling digital payments as a catalyst for financial inclusion. The solution is expected to not only broaden access to the digital economy but also stimulate economic growth by empowering individuals, small businesses, and larger enterprises to engage more fully with modern financial systems.
The launch of Visa Pay comes at a time when digital transformation is accelerating across Africa, with financial inclusion at the heart of sustainable development goals. By bringing secure, innovative, and interoperable solutions to the DRC, Visa is helping bridge the gap between traditional and digital finance while positioning the country as a potential leader in financial technology in the region.
Through Visa Pay, Visa is reaffirming its global mission of enabling inclusive economies where everyone can thrive. By leveraging partnerships with local banks and mobile networks, the company is providing tools that empower communities, unlock opportunities, and create pathways for long-term prosperity in one of Africa’s most promising markets.
