The awards were presented during the seventh edition of Africa Tech Summit Nairobi, powered by Raenest, which convened over 1,600 tech leaders from more than 65 countries to foster business and innovation. This recognition underscores the role of technology in driving economic growth, digital transformation, and sustainable development across Africa.
Mazao AgClimate Limited (Tanzania) won the Agritech Award for its innovative approach to soil restoration and food security, addressing the environmental challenges posed by synthetic fertilizers and deforestation. Cassava Technologies (South Africa) received the AI Award for its AI-driven infrastructure that enhances connectivity, cybersecurity, and cloud services. The Climate Tech Award went to Sabi (Nigeria) for its blockchain-enabled TRACE platform, which ensures real-time traceability and ESG compliance for commodities like cocoa, lithium, and copper.
Flutterwave (Nigeria) received the Cross Border Payments Award for its Send App, which simplifies international remittances across 35+ countries. OmniRetail (Nigeria) won the Digital Commerce Award for its efforts to digitize Africa’s highly fragmented retail sector, providing better distribution and access to essential goods. Ikusasa Technology Solutions (South Africa) was honored with the EdTech Award for its SMART TVET initiative, which digitizes vocational training to enhance inclusive education.
The Enterprise Award went to Smile ID (Nigeria), which is addressing the critical challenge of identity verification for millions of Africans by providing real-time authentication solutions. My Pregnancy Journey (South Africa) won the FemTech Award for its maternal digital health app, offering culturally relevant pregnancy tracking and local health expert connections. HUB2 (Mauritius) was awarded the FinTech Award for simplifying cross-border payments in Francophone Africa through a single API that integrates multiple financial services.
Zuri Health (Kenya) received the Health Tech Award for its digital healthcare platform, which provides virtual consultations, AI-powered diagnostics, pharmacy deliveries, and chronic care management. MiniPay (Nigeria) won the Web3 Award for its integration with Opera Mini, enabling fast and low-cost peer-to-peer transactions using stablecoins. Chinwe Udo-Davis (Nigeria), Co-Founder & CEO of Instollar, was named Female Tech Innovator for her work in green energy and training women in solar installation. Maxwell Opondo (Kenya) won the Young Tech Innovator Award for developing Zerobionic, a robotic arm that translates sign language into real-time communication for hearing-impaired students.
Africa Tech Summit Nairobi also featured the launch of the Africa Climate Tech and Sustainability report, developed in partnership with The Sixth D and Mercy Corps Ventures, providing insights into climate tech investments across the continent. Additionally, the event marked the inauguration of Project Jacaranda, a groundbreaking initiative between Sirona’s Direct Air Capture and Cella’s permanent carbon storage technologies in Kenya. The next industry gathering, Africa Tech Summit London, is set to take place at the London Stock Exchange on June 6, 2025, bringing together key players to continue advancing Africa’s tech ecosystem.
