Andela and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) have unveiled a transformative partnership to train over 20,000 African tech professionals in cloud-native technologies by 2025. This initiative promises to empower underrepresented groups in tech by offering free training that leads to globally recognized certifications in Kubernetes and cloud-native development, enabling participants to compete for remote job opportunities on a global scale.

The program will focus on two certifications: the Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA) for foundational knowledge in Kubernetes and cloud-native ecosystems, and the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) for advanced skills in designing and deploying cloud-native applications. These certifications, often unaffordable for many, will now be within reach, democratizing access to valuable career opportunities in the fast-evolving tech landscape.

Cloud-native skills are increasingly in demand, with 55% of certified developers securing new roles and 67% reporting greater job satisfaction. This partnership is a game-changer for Africa’s growing developer community, helping to bridge the gap between the continent’s abundant talent and the global need for skilled tech professionals. With training durations ranging from 6 to 9 months, this initiative provides an accessible path for African developers to upskill and thrive in competitive job markets.

Andela, a leader in nurturing African tech talent, continues to expand its impact, having already contributed to the training of 15% of Africa’s 716,000 engineers. With this new initiative, Andela aims to further its mission of unlocking Africa’s potential by connecting skilled developers to meaningful opportunities globally. Selections for the program will be drawn from Andela’s 150,000-strong talent marketplace, spanning 49 countries across the continent.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation emphasizes the mutual benefits of this partnership. As the demand for cloud-native developers surges, companies worldwide need skilled professionals, while African developers are eager for opportunities. This collaboration not only addresses a global talent shortage but also builds pathways for African tech professionals to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

By prioritizing inclusivity, accessibility, and skill development, Andela and CNCF are setting a precedent for impactful partnerships in the tech industry. This program is a vital step in equipping Africa’s rapidly expanding developer community with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in a cloud-native world.
