Standard Chartered and @iBizAfrica- Strathmore University have revealed the 15 startups selected for this year’s Women In Tech programme. This initiative brings together female entrepreneurs leveraging technology to drive sustainable startups that create impactful change. The focus is on enabling these startups to adhere to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, advancing both Kenyan and global initiatives.
Dr. Joseph Sevilla, Director of iBizAfrica, Strathmore University, highlighted the innovative spirit and resilience of these women entrepreneurs. The programme is committed to providing resources and mentorship to help these startups scale and create sustainable impacts in Kenya. The fifteen startups will undergo 12 weeks of business incubation training, after which seven companies will each receive KES 1.2 million in funding.
The theme for this year, “Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future,” emphasizes technology-based sustainable solutions with a strong understanding of ESG practices and a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. Joyce Kibe, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand, and Marketing, Kenya and Africa, Standard Chartered, expressed confidence that these startups will power the future of business in Kenya and beyond.
Among the selected startups are Girah Heritage Ltd, MOMA Renewable Energy, Voda Water, Zidallie, Investa Farm, Gwiji for Women, Meira Education Solutions, Zaoshinani, Kavalian Limited, Smart Reja, AerialGIS, PsychCare Clinic, Jido, Africa Stem Girl, and Hayah Cradle To Bloom. These startups represent diverse sectors including tourism, renewable energy, education, fintech, waste management, retail optimization, and mental healthcare.
The Standard Chartered Women In Tech incubation programme integrates emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data. Additionally, it covers the fundamentals of business idea conceptualization, strategy formulation, and marketing, essential for transitioning businesses from incubation to sustainable ventures.
