Bolt announced the successful achievement of its Ksh.10 million fundraising goal to assist flood victims in Kenya. This remarkable milestone was reached through the ‘Flood Assist’ category, where 5% of each ride’s revenue was directed to the Kenya Red Cross Society.

The initiative, which ran between March and May, saw Bolt riders contribute to the mitigation efforts led by the Kenya Red Cross Society. Their robust mechanisms were instrumental in addressing the devastating impacts of the floods, including significant loss of life, displacement, and damage to property and infrastructure.

Starting in May 2024, the partnership between Bolt and the Kenya Red Cross Society aimed to support flood victims across Kenya. Bolt’s initial contribution of Ksh.5 million, combined with the ‘Flood Assist’ category rides, helped meet the Ksh.10 million target within just two weeks, showcasing the unwavering commitment of Kenyans to support each other in times of crisis.

Linda Ndungu, Bolt Country Manager, commended the overwhelming response to the ‘Flood Assist’ category, highlighting the nation’s resilience. She praised the Kenya Red Cross Society for their outstanding work in aiding those affected by the floods and expressed confidence in their continued positive impact in restoring lives.

The intense rainfall affected various regions in Kenya, including the Coastal area, Central areas such as Nairobi, the Western Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern lowlands, and North-eastern regions. The March-April-May (MAM) rains led to widespread displacement, establishment of displacement camps, submerged arable land, impacted businesses, and livestock deaths.

Venant Ndighila, Head of Disaster Operations, Kenya Red Cross Society, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Bolt. He emphasized their commitment to aiding families in improving their livelihoods and reconstructing their homes through cash support, especially during a time when overall support has diminished due to challenging economic conditions.
