Riara University, a leading private institution, has commenced construction of its new campus at the Konza Technopolis. The Ksh 20 billion project marks a significant milestone for the university, which aims to expand its educational offerings and nurture future innovators.

Prof. Robert Gateru, Vice Chancellor of Riara University, emphasized the importance of this development. “The Riara University-Konza Technopolis Campus is poised to accelerate the next phase of our growth and development in line with our motto of nurturing innovators,” he stated. This campus will be the university’s second and main campus, reflecting its commitment to fostering innovation and education.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service. Koskei highlighted the role of the private sector in the development of Konza Technopolis, noting that the government has completed laying the necessary infrastructure. “We are happy to see the private sector now come in and start to develop their projects,” he said.

John Paul Okwiri, CEO of Konza Technopolis, expressed excitement about Riara University’s construction project. “We are ready for investors, and Riara University starting their construction project is a testament to that. The campus will join the existing Kenya Advanced Institute of Technology and Science (Ke-AIST) and Open University of Kenya (OUK),” he noted.

The new campus will be constructed in three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by March 2025. This strategic expansion aligns with Riara University’s vision to become the innovation and startup hub of Africa, offering specialized programs in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Isaac Awuondo, Chairman of Riara University Council, outlined the university’s ambitions. “We are repositioning ourselves to become the innovation and startup university of Africa, offering unique and specialized programs similar to the model of Stanford University at Silicon Valley in California,” he said. Founded in 1974 by Daniel and Eddah Gachukia, Riara University continues to build on its legacy of excellence.
