iHUB Kenya has unveiled twelve innovative EdTech start-ups selected for the second cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship. Launched in 2023, this fellowship programme, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, accelerates technology-driven education solutions across Kenya and Africa.
The Fellowship aims to support EdTech companies addressing learning challenges from K-12 education to vocational training and out-of-school learning. It provides industry support, scalability assistance, and funding to transform learning outcomes through innovative educational products.
“We are thrilled about the potential of these start-ups to revolutionize EdTech in the region. Following the success of our first cohort in 2023, we look forward to the second cohort making significant strides in improving education outcomes for Kenyan learners,” said Nissi Madu, Managing Partner at iHUB Kenya.
The 12 Fellows selected for 2024 include Dals Learning, FUNDIS APP, Soma Siri Afrika, Uptyke, eKitabu Studio KSL, Kuze.ai, Ultratude Tech Ltd (Mzizi School ERP), SomaChat Services, NABU, Esoma Solutions, Kurasa, and Recess.
Throughout the Fellowship, these start-ups will receive technical resources, advisory support, and mentorship, including access to courses on learning science and a global network to scale their impact.
“Our partnership with tech hubs like iHUB Kenya has expanded access to quality learning for Kenya and Africa’s underserved learners through home-grown technology solutions. The EdTech solutions from iHUB’s 2023 cohort reached 32,000 learners, and we anticipate even greater impact this year,” said Joseph Nsengimana, Director of the Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning.
By supporting start-ups leveraging technology to address educational challenges, iHUB aims to increase access to quality and inclusive learning, particularly for young learners in underserved communities.
The Fellows will receive up to $100,000 (Sh13.3 million) in equity-free funding and post-programme advisory support for up to 12 months, enhancing their capacity to deliver impactful educational solutions.
