The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), through the innovative Connect-A-School (CAS) project, is set to build over 100 ICT laboratories in schools nationwide. Sponsored by the Universal Service Fund (USF), this initiative aims to revolutionize education with cutting-edge technology.

Empowering Students with Smart Labs
The ambitious CAS project plans to construct 193 Smart Labs, each equipped to house 60 computers. In the first phase, 75 constituencies will receive 20 computers each and free internet connection for three years, ensuring students have the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.

Accelerating Socioeconomic Development
MACRA’s Communications Manager, Bright Sonani, emphasized that the Malawi 2063 Vision recognizes digitalization as a crucial accelerator for socioeconomic development. This project is a significant step towards achieving that vision, providing students with access to vital digital resources.

Public-Private Collaboration for Education
The Malawi Digital Strategy encourages both public and private sectors to support the growth of the education sector through technology. By fostering collaboration, the strategy aims to create a robust digital ecosystem that benefits learners across the nation.

Connecting Schools Nationwide
In addition to the CAS project, initiatives like Last Mile Connectivity have already linked 145 schools and universities to the internet. These efforts ensure that more educational institutions can benefit from digital advancements, further bridging the digital divide.

Building a Digital Future for Malawi
MACRA’s commitment to enhancing education through technology is paving the way for a brighter future. By equipping schools with ICT labs and internet access, Malawi is taking a bold step towards creating a digitally empowered generation.
