Kenya Power reports a remarkable 150% increase in the value of tenders awarded to youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) initiative.
With tenders worth Ksh.609 million awarded to special interest groups in just 8 months, compared to Ksh.244 million in the same period last year, Kenya Power demonstrates its commitment to empowering marginalized communities and promoting inclusivity in procurement processes.
Among these tenders, businesses owned by youth accounted for the largest value, followed by women-owned enterprises and those owned by PWDs. The company attributes this significant growth to its deliberate efforts in sensitizing target groups about available procurement opportunities.
Dr. Ngeno, representing Kenya Power, highlights the importance of collaboration with financial institutions to provide support and tailor-made financial solutions to AGPO bidders. Through sensitization forums and pre-bid conferences, the company aims to enhance knowledge and awareness among bidders, fostering a more inclusive and empowered business ecosystem.
