Uber has shared insights into consumer behavior regarding its cab-hailing and food delivery services in Kenya. Notable findings include the longest trip recorded at 549 kilometers for a 4-wheel drive vehicle and 520 kilometers for a 2-wheel vehicle, with the highest fare earned by a driver for a single trip being KShs. 15,600. Additionally, in August 2023, there was a significant spike of 71.3% in trips to airports.

Uber for Business experienced a 10.96% year-on-year increase in demand for business trips, with 9 am being the most popular time. Regarding food delivery, Uber’s data indicates a preference among Kenyans for American and African cuisine, with the most ordered meals being KFC’s Streetwise 2 and 3, followed by the Full Java House Breakfast. Orders are predominantly placed on Fridays and Sundays, mainly at 7 pm, 6 pm, and 1 pm.

Furthermore, both Uber and Uber Eats have expanded their offerings beyond transportation and meals, respectively. Uber Eats has witnessed customers ordering various items such as sanitary products like towels and soaps, as well as flowers such as roses. Kui Mbugua, Uber Eats General Manager, expressed satisfaction in leveraging their technology and logistics expertise to fulfill the everyday needs of Kenyans.

The service operates primarily in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nakuru, with plans to introduce an electric motorbike service in Kenya, making Uber the first on the continent. Uber aims to become a zero-emission company by 2040, addressing concerns raised by a 2020 study in the US that highlighted the increase in carbon emissions associated with ride-hailing services.
