Uganda’s MTN Foundation, in partnership with Smart Girls Foundation Uganda, has celebrated the graduation of 201 young people who completed digital and vocational training designed to strengthen employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and economic independence.
The graduating cohort included 183 participants from the Girls in Tech programme, while 18 young people completed vocational courses covering electrical installation, plumbing, motor vehicle mechanics and tailoring.
The partnership has supported youth skills development since 2019. During that period, more than 1,300 young people have received digital and ICT training, while over 130 participants have completed vocational training, creating pathways towards employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
Inclusion remains a central component of the programme, with girls and young women accounting for 80% of available opportunities. The remaining 20% are reserved for young men.
MTN Foundation said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to prepare young people for the future of work and Uganda’s growing digital economy, alongside programmes such as MTN ACE and the MTN Skills Academy.
The Foundation expects graduates to apply their newly acquired skills by pursuing employment, launching businesses and contributing to economic and social development within their communities.
The programme reflects the role of digital and vocational skills development in expanding opportunities for young people while supporting greater participation in Uganda’s evolving economy.
