MTN Uganda Partners with Starlink to Expand Enterprise Connectivity in Underserved Areas
MTN Uganda has partnered with Starlink to extend the MTN Group–Starlink collaboration in Uganda, bringing satellite-enabled connectivity closer to enterprise customers operating in remote, underserved and hard-to-reach areas.
The partnership adds Starlink’s satellite capability to MTN Uganda’s enterprise solutions portfolio, providing an additional connectivity option in locations where conventional mobile and fibre infrastructure is limited or difficult to deploy.
The initial offering will focus on enterprise customers in sectors where reliable connectivity is critical to service delivery, operational continuity and access to essential services.
These sectors include education, healthcare, agriculture, humanitarian response, energy, tourism, financial services and government.
The Uganda expansion forms part of MTN Group’s broader strategy to use Low-Earth-Orbit satellite technology as a complementary layer to terrestrial telecommunications networks.
Rather than replacing existing mobile and fibre infrastructure, satellite connectivity is being explored as an additional solution for areas where geography, infrastructure requirements or deployment costs can make conventional connectivity challenging.
MTN Uganda said the partnership will strengthen its ability to serve enterprise customers operating beyond the reach of traditional infrastructure while supporting greater network resilience.
MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge said the collaboration provides the company with an additional capability to support businesses, institutions and communities that require dependable connectivity in remote locations.
The partnership also highlights the growing role of satellite technology in addressing connectivity gaps across Africa, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas where expanding terrestrial networks can present significant challenges.
For sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture and humanitarian response, improved connectivity can support access to digital services, communication, data exchange and remote operations.
As MTN Group continues exploring satellite partnerships across selected markets, the Uganda deployment represents another step in its strategy to combine terrestrial and satellite technologies to extend the reach and resilience of digital connectivity.
