Ghana has opened the 2026 National ICT Week with a call for stronger collaboration among government, industry, academia and technology innovators to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, officially opened the celebration on August 17, 2026, on behalf of Sector Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George. The event, organised by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), is being held at the CEDI Conference Centre, University of Ghana, under the theme “Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem.”

Delivering the Minister’s address, Sukparu said the theme reflects the government’s commitment to developing the policies, infrastructure, skills, institutions and partnerships needed to maximise opportunities created by the digital economy.

A key focus of the address was Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, launched in April 2026. The strategy provides a framework for the responsible and inclusive adoption of AI, with priorities including data governance, infrastructure, talent development, ethical use and practical applications across the economy. Government has also launched an AI capacity-building programme for public-sector officials in partnership with UNESCO, UNDP and the Government of Japan.

Digital skills development was also highlighted through the One Million Coders Programme, a flagship initiative designed to equip one million Ghanaians with practical coding and digital skills for employment, entrepreneurship and participation in the digital economy. More than 12,000 course completions have already been recorded during the early weeks of Phase Two.

The 2026 National ICT Week therefore positions collaboration, artificial intelligence and digital skills development as key pillars of Ghana’s efforts to scale innovation, strengthen its digital ecosystem and expand opportunities across the country.
