MTN Nigeria has partnered with cybersecurity company Whalebone to launch Webguard, a network-level security solution designed to protect subscribers from malicious websites, phishing attacks and online scams without requiring additional software.
The service operates at the Domain Name System (DNS) level, automatically blocking malicious domains before they reach users. Webguard provides protection across all connected devices under a subscriber’s plan without consuming device storage or battery power.
The partnership comes as digital adoption continues to accelerate across the Middle East and Africa, with increasing use of mobile banking, e-commerce, government services and other digital platforms driving demand for stronger cybersecurity. According to Whalebone, network-level protection offers an effective way to secure users across multiple devices without requiring technical expertise or separate security applications.
The collaboration is intended to provide long-term support through deployment, technical onboarding, performance optimisation, threat intelligence updates and service enhancements, ensuring Webguard remains an integral part of MTN Nigeria’s cybersecurity offering.
The initiative reflects the growing role of telecommunications operators in delivering built-in cybersecurity services as demand increases for safer and more secure digital experiences across Africa.
