FNB and RMB Private Bank have introduced Swoo Pay, a new digital wallet option designed for Huawei and Android device users, expanding access to safe and seamless contactless payments. The launch marks a significant step in ensuring inclusivity for customers whose devices run on HarmonyOS or AndroidOS without Google Services. Through this partnership, users can now link their FNB virtual or physical cards to the Swoo Pay app and conveniently ‘tap to pay’ at any contactless-enabled ATM or point of sale.

Senzo Nsibande, CEO of Card at FNB, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the bank’s commitment to digital innovation and customer convenience. “As a digital innovation leader, we continually seek secure and convenient payment solutions that cater to all customers. The enablement of Swoo Pay makes contactless payments more accessible to Huawei users, ensuring that every customer enjoys flexibility and choice in how they transact,” he stated.

The bank’s digital transformation journey continues to reflect strong growth trends. As of August 2025, FNB recorded over R200 billion in retail spend through digital wallets, signaling the steady rise of contactless transactions across South Africa. Digital wallet transaction volumes have increased by over 42% year-on-year, while digital wallet spending now accounts for a quarter of all retail customer spending. Moreover, 58% of these transactions were made using the FNB Virtual Card, highlighting its widespread adoption and customer trust.

According to Jason Viljoen, Head of Card Digitization at FNB, the integration of Swoo Pay fills a crucial gap for Huawei users who have faced challenges with contactless payment capabilities. By adding their FNB Virtual Card to Swoo Pay, customers can enjoy fast, secure, and rewarding transactions at any contactless point of sale. Viljoen further noted that the FNB Virtual Card’s advanced security features—tokenization, dynamic CVV, and 3D Secure authentication—ensure maximum safety while maintaining a fully digital experience.

Kirill Gorynya, CEO of Swoo, described the collaboration as a milestone in financial inclusion and accessibility. “Our partnership with FNB eliminates technological barriers and empowers users with both the full benefits of FNB’s card features and access to Swoo’s Tokenback loyalty program, which returns up to 90% of purchase value as digital tokens,” he said. This partnership not only enhances customer convenience but also reinforces the vision of creating an inclusive digital payment future for all South Africans, regardless of device preference.
