Huawei Nigeria has officially opened a new innovation centre in Lagos, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. The centre was unveiled during Huawei Day Nigeria 2025, a three-day event themed “Accelerating Industrial Intelligence.” This event attracted key figures, including Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, and executives from Huawei.
The innovation centre is designed to serve as a dynamic platform where customers, partners, and ICT talent can explore the latest technologies, discuss global best practices, and collaborate on tailored solutions across critical industries. Chris Lu, Huawei Nigeria’s CEO, emphasized that the centre will be a key driver of innovation, enabling local businesses and ICT professionals to leverage cutting-edge technologies for transformative growth.
In his remarks, Lu stated that Huawei has been honored to operate in Nigeria since 1999, working alongside industry leaders and partners to build a strong foundation of digital infrastructure. He highlighted the centre’s role in ushering in a new era of collaboration, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence, which he asserts is no longer a future technology but a present reality.
Dr. Bosun Tijani welcomed the launch of the innovation centre, emphasizing that it represents a critical step toward Nigeria’s tech sovereignty. He noted that the centre would promote local co-creation of technology solutions rather than merely being a consumer of imported tech, which aligns with Nigeria’s broader goals of fostering homegrown innovation and development.
Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, representing Lagos State’s Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also expressed his gratitude towards Huawei for its contributions to the state’s ICT ecosystem. He particularly highlighted the role Huawei has played in advancing data sovereignty through localized cloud solutions, which are crucial for ensuring secure and reliable data management for businesses and government entities.
Huawei’s continued commitment to Nigeria is evident not only in the establishment of the new innovation centre but also in the company’s long-standing partnership with the country. As a major player in the ICT sector, Huawei is set to drive further advancements in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and data sovereignty, positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
