Liberia’s Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has deployed two assessment teams to identify telecommunications coverage gaps across 14 counties, identifying 15 potential locations for new mobile network towers under the country’s Universal Access Fund (UAF).

The assessment covers communities across Liberia’s western, central and southeastern regions, focusing on areas where limited telecommunications infrastructure continues to restrict access to reliable connectivity. The initiative aims to identify locations where additional network infrastructure could improve access to telecommunications services for underserved and unserved populations.

According to the LTA, the exercise builds on 15 existing towers supported through the Universal Access Fund. The proposed additional sites are intended to strengthen the country’s telecommunications coverage and extend affordable and reliable connectivity to communities that remain outside adequately served network areas.

The identification of the 15 potential tower locations represents another step in Liberia’s efforts to address the digital divide and expand access to essential telecommunications infrastructure. By directing investment towards commercially underserved areas, the Universal Access Fund supports efforts to make network services more accessible to communities that may otherwise receive limited infrastructure investment.

However, the LTA has not yet provided a construction schedule or confirmed when development of the newly identified sites will begin. The proposed locations remain subject to further implementation decisions.

The assessment highlights Liberia’s continued efforts to use targeted infrastructure development to improve nationwide telecommunications access, strengthen regional connectivity and support broader digital inclusion.
