Telecel Ghana has hosted 100 girls from Ghana’s Upper West and Volta Regions as part of the government’s Girls in ICT initiative, supporting efforts to encourage more young people to develop digital skills and pursue careers in technology.
The programme, organised under the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation’s Girls in ICT initiative, brought participants to Telecel Ghana’s headquarters for practical, technology-focused learning sessions.
The training covered coding, robotics and cybersecurity, providing the girls with hands-on exposure to different areas of digital technology. The sessions were designed to strengthen technical knowledge while building participants’ confidence to engage with the technology sector.
Through practical learning, the programme gives participants an opportunity to explore how digital technologies can be applied to solve problems and create opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
Encouraging girls to pursue ICT careers
Telecel Ghana said its participation forms part of broader efforts to equip the next generation with relevant digital skills and encourage more girls to consider opportunities in information and communications technology.
Exposure to areas such as coding, robotics and cybersecurity can help young people better understand the range of career paths available within the technology sector.
The initiative also highlights the importance of providing young women with practical opportunities to develop technical capabilities at an early stage.
