dLocal’s Ghanaian subsidiary, dLocal Ghana Limited, has received an Enhanced Payment Service Provider (EPSP) licence from the Bank of Ghana, strengthening the company’s ability to operate digital payment services within the country’s regulated financial ecosystem.
The regulatory approval allows dLocal to directly provide secure, reliable and efficient digital payment services under the oversight of the Bank of Ghana. The company said the milestone reinforces its commitment to expanding its customer base and digital payments presence across Africa.
For consumers and businesses in Ghana, the licence is expected to support smoother participation in the digital economy, including online shopping, bill payments and business transactions. Operating within the national regulatory framework also means dLocal’s payment infrastructure will be subject to local requirements around security and consumer protection.
The approval is also expected to support international merchants seeking to enter the Ghanaian market. By connecting global businesses with local payment methods, including mobile money and bank transfers, dLocal aims to make it easier for Ghanaian consumers to access international products and services while enabling merchants to pursue new export opportunities.
Oluwademilade Egbeyemi, Regional Expansion Manager for West Africa at dLocal, said the company’s goal is to simplify digital transactions for Ghanaians while providing greater confidence that payments are processed securely.
The EPSP licence enables dLocal to offer a broader range of payment services focused on financial inclusion, transaction security, reliable connections between local payment methods and the wider digital economy, and support for business growth.
The development positions dLocal to play a greater role in Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem as businesses and consumers increasingly rely on digital channels for commerce and financial transactions.
