Cloudera and Mistral have announced a strategic partnership aimed at helping enterprises build, customise and deploy secure, sovereign artificial intelligence directly alongside their private data.
The collaboration combines Cloudera’s hybrid data and AI platform with Mistral’s sovereign AI models, giving organisations greater flexibility to run AI across public cloud, private cloud, on-premises, edge, sovereign and fully air-gapped environments.
The companies said the partnership is designed to help enterprises use AI without requiring sensitive or proprietary information to leave their existing security and governance boundaries. Organisations will be able to run AI inference privately, customise models using proprietary data and maintain greater control over their infrastructure, data and AI economics.
Cloudera said its platform manages enterprise data estates spanning approximately 30 exabytes, creating an opportunity for organisations with large volumes of proprietary information to apply AI directly where their data resides.
Mistral’s portfolio of frontier models and tools will be integrated with Cloudera’s platform across use cases including reasoning, conversational AI, coding, document intelligence and voice. This will give enterprises greater choice in how they apply AI to their governed data and business workflows.
The partnership will also incorporate Mistral Forge, enabling enterprises to build and customise frontier-grade AI models using proprietary knowledge within controlled environments. Organisations with large stores of institutional data will be able to transform that information and domain expertise into specialised AI while retaining ownership and sovereignty over their data and resulting intelligence.
Developers will also be able to build AI-powered applications using private enterprise data in local environments. Potential applications include conversational access to governed data, AI-assisted software development and agentic workflows without exposing sensitive business information or intellectual property to external environments.
Cloudera and Mistral also plan to explore AI at the edge, bringing inference closer to where enterprise data is generated. This could support intelligent applications in disconnected, latency-sensitive and resource-constrained environments where centralised cloud infrastructure may not be practical.
The partnership further expands Cloudera’s Enterprise AI Ecosystem, providing customers with greater choice across AI models, infrastructure and deployment environments. Both companies said the collaboration reflects an open approach to enterprise AI rather than requiring customers to rely on a single technology stack.
The joint solutions will be made available through Cloudera’s enterprise sales organisation and partner ecosystem, with additional integrations and capabilities expected to roll out over time.
