Equinix Commits Additional $50 Million to Expand Global Digital Inclusion Efforts
Equinix has announced a new $50 million commitment to the Equinix Foundation, doubling the company’s total investment in the Foundation just four years after its launch in 2022.
The new funding will accelerate the Foundation’s work to expand digital opportunity through strategic grantmaking, workforce development and community partnerships.
Since its establishment, the Equinix Foundation has awarded grants to 100 nonprofit partners across 48 metropolitan areas globally. In 2025 alone, organisations supported through its portfolio helped connect more than 3.5 million people to the internet, while reaching more than 1.6 million people through digital literacy and skills training.
The Foundation’s work is centred on three key impact areas: connectivity and digital infrastructure, digital literacy and skills development, and workforce readiness and resilience.
Through its connectivity initiatives, the Foundation supports efforts to expand reliable internet access for digitally underserved communities. Its digital literacy programmes aim to equip people of different ages with essential technology skills, while workforce initiatives create pathways into technical careers linked to the data centre industry.
Equinix has also appointed Aslıhan Güreşcier, VP of Growth and Emerging Markets, EMEA, as the new President of the Equinix Foundation. She will lead the organisation’s next phase of growth and work toward its vision of a more accessible, sustainable and interconnected digital future.
The Foundation is also strengthening its ecosystem approach by working with Equinix employees, nonprofits, customers and alliance partners. Organisations involved in its programmes include Cisco and HPE, alongside partners supporting connectivity, digital skills, sustainability and workforce development.
One of the Foundation’s key initiatives is Pathways to Tech, which introduces students aged 14 to 18 to careers in data centre operations through school visits, facility tours and education programmes led by certified Equinix employee volunteers.
Since its launch, Pathways to Tech has reached more than 1,300 students across 24 locations worldwide. The Foundation has also partnered with the International Youth Foundation to develop a scalable model that can expand the programme into additional markets.
Other Foundation partners include Per Scholas, which provides technical workforce training; unconnected.org, which works to expand sustainable connectivity; UNICEF Digital Inclusion and its Giga programme; YUVA Unstoppable in India; and the Enterprise Development Centre at Pan-Atlantic University in Nigeria.
The Enterprise Development Centre’s SparkLab incubator supports early-stage entrepreneurs and technopreneurs with skills, mentorship and market access, highlighting the Foundation’s broader focus on connecting digital infrastructure investment with entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.
With the additional $50 million commitment, Equinix is expanding the scale of its digital inclusion efforts while strengthening programmes designed to improve connectivity, build technology skills and create new career opportunities in communities around the world.
