Eswatini’s Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) is advancing digital transformation and artificial intelligence as part of its strategy to strengthen public-sector accountability, transparency and oversight.

Auditor-General Timothy Matsebula made the call during the launch of the OAG Eswatini Strategic Plan 2026–2030, where he urged staff to adapt to technologies reshaping government accounting and auditing processes.

The strategic plan identifies five priorities: strengthening legal and institutional independence, improving audit impact and implementation of recommendations, institutionalising quality management and professional excellence, advancing digital transformation, and building a high-performing and ethical institution.

The OAG also emphasised the need for auditors to assess whether public spending delivers tangible value to citizens and contributes to improved public services.

The strategy aligns with international standards and best practices, including INTOSAI principles, and was developed with financial and technical support from the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) and the African Organisation of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E).
