UNICEF Lesotho and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) are supporting the Ministry of Education and Training in the development of a Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Dashboard and Scorecards to strengthen early learning outcomes through improved use of education data.
The digital platform will monitor the performance of learners in Grades 1 to 3 across numeracy, Sesotho, English and life skills. By consolidating learning data into a single, accessible system, the dashboard will enable schools, education clusters, district officials and national policymakers to identify learning gaps earlier, strengthen teacher coaching and allocate resources more effectively.
As part of the initiative, principals in 300 project schools and cluster mentors will receive tablets to support digital data collection and reporting. The programme also includes the installation of solar power systems in 25 cluster learning spaces and capacity-building for education personnel to improve the collection, analysis and use of foundational learning data.
According to UNICEF, the programme is designed to ensure that timely, reliable learning data translates into targeted interventions, enabling teachers and education leaders to identify learners who need additional support at an earlier stage. The initiative aims to improve foundational literacy and numeracy while ensuring every learner is visible within the education system.
The project reflects the continued collaboration between UNICEF, GPE and the Government of Lesotho to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, improve learning outcomes and build a more inclusive and data-driven education system.
