Equatorial Guinea has taken another step in advancing its digital transformation agenda after state-owned telecommunications operator GETESA signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Huawei to modernise the country’s national telecommunications network.
The agreement, signed in Malabo in the presence of Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue and senior government officials, marks the beginning of a new phase for GETESA as it works with Huawei to strengthen national connectivity and improve telecommunications services.
Over the next six months, the partnership will focus on optimising existing network infrastructure, expanding network capacity, increasing data transmission speeds and improving the quality, stability and reliability of voice and data services across the country.
According to the government, the initiative will deliver faster and more reliable connectivity for households, businesses, students and public institutions, regardless of their location, while supporting the country’s growing demand for digital services.
Officials also highlighted digital transformation as a key driver of Equatorial Guinea’s economic diversification strategy, noting that improved telecommunications infrastructure will help stimulate innovation, attract investment, create employment opportunities and support long-term economic growth.
The collaboration between GETESA and Huawei reflects the country’s continued commitment to building a modern, secure and intelligent digital infrastructure capable of supporting its future connectivity needs.
