Samsung has introduced Scan to Pay, a new QR payment feature provided by EFT Corp and integrated into Samsung Wallet, giving Galaxy users in South Africa another option for making everyday payments.
The feature allows users to complete in-store and online transactions by scanning QR codes at participating merchants. Instead of using a physical card, Galaxy users can open Samsung Wallet, scan the relevant QR code and authenticate the payment.
Scan to Pay is designed to reduce friction during checkout and enable faster transactions across everyday activities such as shopping, dining and other purchases.
The service is supported by Scan to Pay, a South African alternative payments provider with more than 600,000 acceptance locations across the country and over 19 million app inclusions across consumer banking, fintech and financial service provider applications.
The integration expands Samsung Wallet’s payment capabilities as Samsung continues to bring more everyday financial and digital services into a single platform.
Zahir Cajee, MX Lead, Product and Commercial at Samsung South Africa, said the company’s product development focuses on understanding how consumers use their devices and making everyday interactions more intuitive and convenient.
Security is also built into the new payment experience. Scan to Pay transactions are protected by Samsung Knox and biometric authentication, allowing users to verify payments biometrically before completing a transaction.
The feature is now available within Samsung Wallet at participating locations, giving Galaxy users in South Africa a QR-based alternative to traditional physical card payments.
The rollout further strengthens the role of digital wallets in everyday payments while providing consumers with a convenient way to complete transactions using devices they already carry.
