Equinix has announced plans to establish a new data centre in Nigeria, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing commitment to expand digital infrastructure across Africa. The LG3 facility will be Equinix’s third data centre in Lagos and represents the first phase of an ambitious $100 million investment plan aimed at reshaping the continent’s digital landscape over the next two years.

The LG3 data centre is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. This facility builds on Equinix’s regional presence, which started with the acquisition of MainOne and the development of LG1 and LG2 facilities. The new site will further strengthen Equinix’s footprint in West Africa, providing essential infrastructure to support local enterprises while attracting international businesses to Nigeria.

A key feature of LG3 is the integration of Equinix Fabric into the metro, enabling businesses to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructure to cloud service providers, partners, and other companies across Equinix locations worldwide. This capability will allow Nigerian businesses to scale efficiently while accessing global connectivity, driving innovation and competitiveness in the region.

Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix, emphasized that LG3 is a milestone in bridging Africa’s digital divide. He highlighted Lagos as a hub of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, with the new facility accelerating access to critical technologies including cloud, artificial intelligence, and solutions for emerging start-ups across the country.

The launch of LG3 underscores Equinix’s long-term strategy to foster digital growth in Africa, creating opportunities for local businesses to thrive while positioning Nigeria as a strategic hub for global connectivity. This investment reinforces Equinix’s role in advancing the continent’s digital transformation and supporting the next generation of technology-driven enterprises.
