Raxio Group has officially launched Angola’s largest data center, a US$30 million state-of-the-art facility located in Cacuaco, Luanda Province. Spanning 19,000 square meters with 3MW of installed IT capacity, the data center can host more than 800 server racks, more than doubling the nation’s existing capacity. This milestone positions Angola as a critical hub for digital infrastructure in the region.
The new facility will serve as the host site for Angola’s Internet Exchange Point (IXP), enabling local internet traffic to remain within the country rather than being routed internationally. This step is expected to significantly improve connectivity, reduce latency, and enhance overall internet reliability, thereby empowering businesses, individuals, and government agencies alike with faster and more efficient digital services.
Raxio Angola is the company’s sixth facility in Africa, following investments in Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire, with plans already in motion for Tanzania. This expansion underscores Raxio’s commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation by building world-class infrastructure that enables growth, inclusion, and technological advancement across the continent.
The launch has been widely recognized as a catalyst for Angola’s digital economy. According to Mário Oliveira, Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies, and Social Communication, the project represents a significant leap forward in Angola’s vision of becoming a regional technology leader. By fostering an environment of digital independence, the investment provides tangible benefits to both businesses and citizens.
With its robust design—powered by two independent substations, supported by backup generators, UPS systems, and batteries—Raxio Angola is poised to provide unmatched reliability and scalability. As Maria Miguel Pinto, General Manager of Raxio Angola, noted, the facility will help unlock faster, more reliable internet while creating conditions that ensure Angola’s competitiveness in the global digital landscape.
