Tamer El Mahdi Named as CEO at Telecom Egypt

Telecom Egypt has announced a significant leadership transition with the appointment of Tamer El Mahdi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. El Mahdi succeeds Mohamed Nasr, who has stepped down from both his executive role and his position on the Board of Directors. The Board has also approved the resignations of Mohamed Al Fowey, VP & Chief Technical Officer, and Ahmed Hassan, VP & Chief Human Resources Officer, with El Mahdi now tasked with overseeing the appointment of successors to ensure operational continuity and strategic progress.

With more than three decades of leadership experience across telecommunications, IT, digital transformation, and non-banking financial services, Tamer El Mahdi brings a strong track record of driving growth and transformation at multinational corporations and investment firms. His career includes senior executive positions at Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, Orascom Telecom Algeria (Djezzy), and Orascom Telecom Holding, where he spearheaded billion-dollar projects and international expansions in Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East. Earlier in his career, he contributed to large-scale telecom infrastructure projects with AT&T across North Africa.

The Board of Directors expressed confidence in El Mahdi’s ability to guide Telecom Egypt into its next phase of growth, emphasizing his wide-ranging expertise and leadership acumen. His mandate is to maximize the value of the company’s assets and investments while strengthening its customer base and enhancing service quality at both national and international levels. The Board also extended gratitude to outgoing CEO Mohamed Nasr for his leadership during a challenging period, wishing him success in his future endeavors.

In his acceptance statement, El Mahdi emphasized his commitment to building on Telecom Egypt’s longstanding success while advancing the company’s strategic vision. He highlighted the importance of people and customers as the company’s greatest strengths, pledging to prioritize customer-centric strategies, sustainable growth, and innovation in digital services. His goal is to reinforce Telecom Egypt’s leadership in telecommunications while also serving broader economic and societal goals in Egypt and the region.
