Kaspersky and AFRIPOL have strengthened their partnership with the signing of a new cooperation agreement aimed at combating cybercrime in Africa. The agreement, which spans five years, focuses on enhancing the exchange of data on cyberthreats and cybercrime trends between the global cybersecurity company and the African Union’s law enforcement agency. This initiative will help improve criminal intelligence analysis and bolster the fight against cybercriminal activities across the continent.

Africa has become increasingly susceptible to cyber threats, particularly in the industrial sector. The region has the highest share of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) computers targeted by malicious activities, with Kaspersky solutions blocking a significant number of these threats. The rapidly evolving cyberthreat landscape in Africa calls for strengthened collaboration to ensure the continent’s digital infrastructure remains secure from malicious actors.

Under the new agreement, Kaspersky will provide AFRIPOL with critical data on the latest cybercriminal activities. This exchange of intelligence will enhance AFRIPOL’s ability to conduct thorough criminal intelligence analysis. Additionally, Kaspersky will offer its vast expertise in information security, providing assistance, know-how, and technical knowledge to help bolster AFRIPOL’s capacity to defend against emerging cyber threats.

The official signing ceremony took place on November 18 at AFRIPOL’s headquarters in Algiers, with Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky and AFRIPOL’s Acting Executive Director, Ambassador Jalel Chelba, marking the historic moment. Both parties expressed their commitment to working together to improve Africa’s cybersecurity resilience, enabling a safer cyberspace for all African citizens and organizations.

Eugene Kaspersky emphasized the importance of cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, stating that the exchange of expertise between stakeholders, including security experts, law enforcement agencies, and the public, is vital. He highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to equip organizations like AFRIPOL with the information and technology required to respond to the ever-evolving cyber threat landscape, contributing to global cyber resilience.

Ambassador Jalel Chelba welcomed the agreement, recognizing the significant value it brings to AFRIPOL’s ability to combat cybercrime. By leveraging Kaspersky’s resources and expertise, AFRIPOL will strengthen its operational framework and contribute to the protection of Africa’s digital space. The collaboration builds on their shared history of joint initiatives, including participation in INTERPOL-led operations to disrupt cybercrime in Africa.
