Glovo Kenya’s GM Highlights Innovation at UoN Tech Expo

Caroline Mutuku, the Country General Manager of Glovo Kenya, recently took center stage at the University of Nairobi’s Tech Week Expo, inspiring the next generation of tech leaders during the panel discussion on “Women Shaping the Future of Technology.” Caroline shared invaluable insights about the importance of innovation, mentorship, and gender inclusivity as essential drivers of progress in the tech industry. Her message resonated with aspiring tech leaders, particularly women, encouraging them to push the boundaries of what is possible.

During her talk, Caroline emphasized the need for women in tech to stay ahead of technological advancements, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence. She shared her belief that being a role model means not only keeping up with the latest trends but also empowering others through knowledge. “Being a role model means not only keeping up with changing trends but also sharing knowledge to empower others,” she explained.

Caroline also highlighted the significance of embracing innovation to drive value and create progress. She encouraged the audience to seek excellence in their work, stating, “Don’t just settle for good; strive for excellence. Let your work be your signature.” She stressed the importance of networking and mentorship, urging young women to learn from those who have paved the way before them and to make their mark on the world.

Her tenure at Glovo has seen significant growth, particularly in terms of job creation and support for small businesses. Since Caroline’s appointment in 2022, Glovo’s courier network has expanded from 700 to 1,300 couriers, creating numerous economic opportunities for young people. She also highlighted the pivotal role of delivery platforms like Glovo during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the company helped support restaurant partners in challenging times.

Caroline proudly shared that Glovo is leading the way in gender inclusivity, with women at the helm of four of its six African markets, including Kenya. Glovo’s leadership team is also notably diverse, with 30% of positions held by women. As part of its commitment to female empowerment, the company offers internal mentorship programs to help develop female leaders. Caroline’s own career path stands as a testament to the company’s dedication to gender equality.

Additionally, Caroline announced Glovo’s new graduate trainee program, designed to provide opportunities for fresh graduates in Kenya to begin their careers in the tech industry. She also discussed the company’s Glovo Local program, which supports small and medium-sized businesses in Kenya by providing digital training and market access. This initiative is aimed at boosting the growth of local entrepreneurs, including offering training on social media and sustainable packaging. Caroline’s session at Tech Week was a powerful reminder of the importance of mentorship, innovation, and inclusivity in shaping the future of tech.
