Toni Campbell, a managing partner at Kinfolk Venture Capital, has been appointed as the interim CEO. This transition marks a significant change in leadership for the company.
Under Ibitade’s stewardship, Leatherback expanded its global footprint and became a trusted partner in cross-border financial services. The company expressed its gratitude for Ibitade’s dedication and wished him success in his future endeavors. Leatherback’s commitment to delivering exceptional financial solutions was bolstered by Ibitade’s guidance during his tenure.
Adedayo Amzat, Group Managing Director and CEO of Zedcrest Group, which led Leatherback’s $10 million pre-seed funding round in 2022, will join the company as a non-executive director. This strategic addition aims to strengthen the leadership team and ensure continuity in Leatherback’s mission to redefine global financial solutions.
In her new role, Campbell emphasized the opportunity to enhance the movement of money across borders, focusing on building trust and delivering exceptional value to customers. With her leadership, Leatherback aims to remain a formidable player in the global financial services sector, committed to making cross-border payments more accessible.
The leadership transition comes nearly a year after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Ibitade wanted in connection with an unrelated investigation involving SDQ Financials. However, Leatherback clarified that it had been cleared of any wrongdoing, reinforcing its integrity in the fintech landscape.
Headquartered in London and regulated across several countries, Leatherback serves over 30,000 customers and supports transactions in 15 currencies. As of mid-2023, the startup had processed $500 million in monthly transactions and is on track to reach the $1 billion milestone by year-end, further solidifying its position in the cross-border payments market.
