In the face of the rapidly advancing fourth industrial revolution, global economies must fully embrace technology to stay competitive. This is especially true for Kenya, where the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) is vital for driving growth in key sectors such as manufacturing. Chinese tech giant Huawei has emphasized the importance of these technological advancements in shaping the future of industries across both developed and developing economies. As one of the major players at the GItex 2024 exhibition in Dubai, Huawei is advocating for the accelerated adoption of digital solutions.
Kenya’s position as a leading economy in East Africa and a recognized tech hub on the continent presents a unique opportunity to scale up its industrial capabilities. Despite the government’s ambitious plan to increase manufacturing’s share of GDP from the current 7.2% to 20% by 2030, technology uptake in the sector remains slower than needed. Huawei is urging the country to invest in building robust digital ecosystems that integrate manufacturing, finance, and energy to fuel sustainable economic growth.
Huawei has taken proactive steps to address these challenges by launching joint solutions in collaboration with partners across ten key industries, including public utilities, finance, transportation, healthcare, and mining. These solutions are designed to accelerate digital and intelligent transformation, enabling businesses to optimize their operations and deliver more value. The firm’s strategy includes deploying flagship products that combine capabilities in networking, storage, computing, cloud, and energy.
Li Peng, Huawei’s corporate senior vice president and President of ICT sales and service, pointed out that the company is leveraging its technological strengths to create new digital infrastructure that supports the seamless transition towards intelligent systems. The approach reflects Huawei’s commitment to enabling industries to harness next-generation technology effectively.
Huawei’s involvement in Kenya is already well established, with the company playing a key role in supporting the M-Pesa platform and partnering with the government on cloud and AI initiatives. Their work extends to supporting SMEs by providing end-to-end services that enhance digital capabilities. The firm’s solutions cater to both large-scale enterprises and smaller players in the market, promoting an inclusive digital transformation.
Corporate senior vice president and President of Enterprise Sales, Leo Chen, emphasized that the next wave of the industrial revolution will be powered by AI and 5G-A. The ongoing transformation is set to redefine how industries operate, and Huawei’s efforts are geared towards positioning Kenya and other economies at the forefront of this change.
