The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is expanding its African interconnection platform by partnering with PAIX Data Centres in Nairobi. This strategic move responds to strong demand from the local networking community, enhancing connectivity options for networks housed at PAIX.

With this expansion, networks at PAIX Nairobi will gain seamless access to peering opportunities with any network present at LINX Nairobi. This includes global content networks like Meta and local ISPs such as ICON Fiber, Mtaani Telecom, Mymanga Networks, and PepeaNet. The addition of PAIX will elevate LINX’s infrastructure to a four-site interconnection hub, with installation expected to go live in the coming weeks.

LINX Nairobi, launched in November 2023, has quickly gained traction, establishing a robust community of local ISPs, global content providers, and strategic partners. The early success has driven LINX to expand its infrastructure just nine months post-launch, reflecting the growing demand and importance of enhanced connectivity.

PAIX Nairobi NBO-1, located at the Britam Tower in Upper Hill, Nairobi, serves as a crucial hub for various industries, including financial services, advertising, broadcasting, and entertainment. Emmanuel Makina, Sales Manager at PAIX Data Centres, emphasized the facility’s strategic location and its role in providing essential connectivity services in Nairobi’s central business district.

Jennifer Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer for LINX, expressed enthusiasm about the unexpected expansion, noting that it aligns with LINX’s commitment to adding value to the local community and broadening peering opportunities. This expansion is set to benefit both existing and prospective local and global networks.

Wouter van Hulten, CEO and founder of PAIX Data Centres, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing Kenya’s digital infrastructure. With support from Africa50 and a focus on local operations and world-class services, PAIX Data Centres is poised to drive growth in Africa’s digital economy. The partnership with LINX represents a significant milestone in this journey.
